about

Over October and November, we were doing a lot of little gigs, so we spent a lot of time preparing for them and not much time recording. After a lull in the gig schedule, we recorded four new tracks that we'd been putting off, "Phoenix the Stripper," "Effigy," "Ready to Die," and "Perdition," in one night. "Unknown" was recorded a few months prior, but I felt like the vibe of that track was similar enough to that of the other four to include on the same release.

Track Name: Phoenix the Stripper
flames spread out from her furious sun
her wings enshroud all of the damaged ones
mouths agape they inhale her soul
as she twirls around the stripper pole

she gets alone, burns down from the sun, and spreads her wings

she's from the ghetto and she wants to win
takes their money and an ounce of sin
manipulate every day her fate
check the meth, the coke and the hate

she gets alone, burns down from the sun, and spreads her wings

she felt the eyes of the world on her skin
they couldn't make her feel low
the Phoenix dies, falls to earth amid rain
what she was they don't know

she burns out, convulses on the stage
she wanted to be a mother and a nurse someday
and the girl from the violent hood
turns to ash still misunderstood

she gets alone, burns down from the sun, and spreads her wings

she felt the eyes of the world on her skin
they couldn't make her feel low
the Phoenix dies, falls to earth amid rain
what she was they don't know
Track Name: Effigy
shattered face, dead eyes in the mirror
everything I see is survival
I'm a god with his limbs in the gutter
find a girl only to divide her

loneliness is my friend and my knife
I cut myself every night of this life
burns holes into everything I see
stare in the mirror and become my Effigy

I'm the cause of my hate, a pariah
I'm the blood, I'm the rage, I'm the fire
destroys everything that I see
I'm a hate, I'm a burn, I'm my Effigy

I died 14 hard years ago
now I'm a ghost that you don't want to know
burns holes into everything I see
stare in the mirror and become my Effigy
Track Name: Unknown
Ugly buildings out the window, hard looks from passerby
life here in the sewer, drowning in the heat and lies

alright, alright, you are, on the outside,
on your own, on your own, you're unknown, on your own

never got your number, never called your name,
out of luck and money, every day is the same

alright, alright, you are, on the outside,
on your own, on your own, you're unknown, on your own

Lost in this city, wall to wall endless people
don't know how to find you, got to get out of here alive

alright, alright, you are, on the outside,
on your own, on your own, you're unknown, on your own
Track Name: Ready to Die
I bleed your world
I bleed to the moon
I fuck under the sun
got nothing left
breathe in the sky
this song of darkness
and it gets so cold
walking through this world
waiting for death
I breathe this hell
the wind burns my face
and I'm ready to die
I carve out my eyes
everything is darkness
I used to be alive
Track Name: Perdition (Road Comes Down)
got the dead-end job and the limp and the wife with the permanent scowl
got the thigh-high boots and the bloodshot eyes, still got the attitude

walking down that road
here comes the end
the Road Comes Down

pushed to the brink and I got nowhere else to go
just did a 5 year stint and now I'm back to selling again
held up a store and I'm gonna shoot the first person who moves
I'm a slut, I'm a drunk, I'm a waste and I want to start some shit with you

walking down that road
here comes the end
the Road Comes Down
